Employment Discrimination Within The Workplace - 1079 Words

Employment Discrimination in Indonesia As stated on wikipedia.org, discrimination is action that denies social participation or human rights to categories of people based on prejudice. This includes treatment of an individual or group based on their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or social category, in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated. This could be done directly or indirectly. Direct discrimination could arise from punishments and indirect discrimination could come up from strict rules or regulation that make the individual feel uncomfortable. Discrimination can take various forms. It can includes gender, salary receipts, color, race, religion, national origin, and etc. Gender discrimination in the workplace usually addressed to the female gender, it occurs when there is a difference treatment in electing a leader for women. Salary receipts can also be a cause of discrimination in the workplace, it happens when an employee paid a monthly salary and it was not worth his or h er hard work for the company. In this article the author will be focus on a gender discrimination which commonly occur in the workplace. Race, color, and national origin arise when an employer s standards or policies for selecting or promoting employees have a discriminatory effect on employees or job applicants in these protected classes (Cross Miller, 2012). Types Of Hip Extension Exercises Samples †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Types Of Hip Extension Exercises. Answer: Introduction The research contained the journal entitled Are all hip extension exercises created equal? was basically designed and carried out to determine whether all the hip exercises produce the same results (Contreras et al., 2013). These exercises are designed to create power and stamina to different people like athletes, footballers and other different people who participate in different games. The exercises are very important because they are one of the factors which determine whether the players will be successful in the career (Steele et al., 2015). They also make the body flexible and adaptable to the environment of the game. This makes it very important to evaluate different types of those exercises scientifically to determine the ones which are good and can produce the best results for the people. Many researchers claim that these exercises may produce the same results given that other factors are kept constant that is the nature of the body, the number of years, the frequency of the exercises and the duration which the person takes to do the exercise (Kendall et al., 2015). However, other researchers claim that even though these exercises may have similar protocols on how they are carried out, some scientific factors can influence them and hence produce different results. Some of the scientific factors which can lead to different results include the angles at which the exercise are carried out and those angles maybe forty -five degrees, ninety degree and one eighty degrees respectively (Lun et al., 2015). Due to this perceived difference in the hip exercises, that is why the researchers decided to scientifically access if the claims are true that the exercises may produce different results. Methods The researchers used physics methods to evaluate the effects of different types of exercises. They included three types of the exercises and named them as A, B and C respectively. The first exercise which is labeled as A and given the name good morning exercise is carried on at 90 degrees where by the participants lifts weight while standing straight and movement only occurs at the hips. The second exercise which is labeled as B and given the name back extension exercise is carried on at 90, 180, and 135 degrees but with the person bending over a torso. In this exercise, the person either makes the legs straight that is 90 degrees or bents them at 135 degrees or 180 respectively. The third exercise is labeled as C and called the horizontal back extension exercise. This exercise is also carried out at three levels of degrees that are 90, 180 and 135 respectively. The person here moves the back side only while bending on the torso. There follow the methods of calculating the effects of each exercise. There are many factors and many determinants which are used to calculate the effects. Out of the three exercises, each of them includes a calculation of two moments. The two moments include the moment of the HAT acting on the Hip joint and the second one includes the moment of lb(45kg) external resistance acting on the hip joint (Contreras et al., 2013). The calculations are carried out in different stages whereby the weight of HAT is calculated by multiplying the weight of the participant by 0.68. Then the weight is converted to mass by multiplying it with the gravitational force which is 9.8. The external torque of the HAT acting on the hip is then calculated. There follows a calculation of the free torque and then the process is carried out in all the three different types of the exercise. The methods chosen to carry out the calculations are well organized and in a logical manner. This applies that the researcher will arrive at the intended results. However, the researchers have not well explained the criteria they choose the participants and hence that may make the results not to be scientifically correct. It is good in any research to include the criteria used for finding out the participants (Ritichie et al., 2013). Also, the researchers have only used one person per exercise to determine the results which may not be good because different people may have different body structures which may be affected differently by the exercise hence the results may not be scientifically correct to generalize the either the three exercises have different effects or they have the same effect because of the methods used. However, the methods used to carry out the calculations are scientifically and mathematically correct hence the results obtained may be true but just to the chosen participants and they should not be generalized to mean that all the other people who do those exercises have the same effect. To carry out a good research, the researcher should be willing to include large sample size and make sure there are well- structured criterias which are adopted in the process of sample selection (Marshall and Rossman, 2014). This does not only ensure that the research is valid but also it makes sure that it is logical and scientifically reliable since it covers a large geographical area and involves participants from different locations (Spradley, 2016). Results The researchers found that there was a significant difference between the three types of exercises and even there was a difference in the angles adopted on the axis of rotation. In the exercise called good morning torque, at 90 degrees there were 478 instantaneous hip extension torques with 135 and 180 degrees having 338 and zero respectively. In the exercise called back extension, there were 338 instantaneous hip extension torques at 45 degrees with 478 and 338 at 135 and 180 degrees respectively. In the third exercise called horizontal back extension, the was zero instantaneous hip extension torques at 90 degrees with 338 and 478 at 135 and 180 degrees respectively. Also, the researchers found that monoarticular muscles are mostly favored by the exercises. They also found that exercises create different amounts of torque throughout the joints and different parts of the body. In addition, it was evident that exercises which involve a large torque have more effects on metabolic stress than those which produce little torque. However, it was evident that other factors like pressure and load were not having a great impact on the torque throughout the research hence were not supposed to be considered more in those exercises. Muscle activation was increased in all levels of the exercises hence making the participants more active. This was very important to increase the performance of the participants since those people who have more active muscles tend to do better than those who less active muscles (Dumoulin et al., 2014). The researchers made a conclusion on the observations they had made in the process of the research. They concluded that all hip extension exercises are not created equal and the external torque tends to vary depending on the position of the body of the person from the ground. This makes it possible to have different torque depending on the distance from the ground (Jakobsen et al., 2013). They also concluded that hip exercises done at 45 degrees have more consistent levels than the others. They suggested that multiple hip expansion exercises should be performed at different levels and different times. These exercises help in reducing knee valgus and other related complications. It doesnt matter the type of the exercise carried on but people should engage themselves in at least two of the exercises which are related to this study. The time of the day when the exercises are carried out does not matter but it is important to carry the exercises out at least twice a day (Grabowski and DAndrea, 2013). What I have learned I have learned the application of biomechanics in real life situations. The application of this discipline is very relevant to sports since it helps in the development of good sporting habit. As it is defined that biomechanics is the study of mechanical laws which relate to movement or the structure of all living organisms (McGinnis, 2013). I realized that through the study of biomechanics I will be able to understand my body very well and how different types of exercises can influence it and be of benefit. Have also been able to understand how to differentiate types of external forces which are present during exercises and how those forces affect the body during the process of exercises hence making it possible to make good decisions on which position should I take when doing different types of exercises. Have learned how to place the body muscles in relative to the line of resistance to achieve the best results. This placing of the muscles determines the extent to which the taken e xercise will be of benefit to the participant. In addition, biomechanics is of great importance in the prevention of injuries. This is because the discipline involves the study of both internal and external forces of the body so any person who has knowledge in it is able to understand how to balance the internal and external forces so as to avoid injuries (Song, 2013). All nurses and doctors who occasionally deal with solving the issues relating to players should have the knowledge of biomechanics so as to perform their duties in a good way. This can only be achieved through the study of the discipline. Also, the knowledge of biomechanics does not only apply to the players who take sports as their life time career, it also helps those people who take sports as part time career to develop a good series which can make them successful even though they dont take exercises every time (Fung, 2013). The understanding of this discipline also helps people to minimize stress especially if they apply the knowledge well. This is because many scientists have proved that exercises minimize stress hence if you have the knowledge of biomechanics and you apply it while doing exercises it makes you perform it better hence producing good exercise results which contribute to the minimization of stress (Yoganandan et al., 2014). This exercise has greatly contributed to the understanding of biomechanics in larger dimensions. It has made me understand that not only the discipline is studied theoretical but also it has a very wide application in real life situation. Among the real life application of this discipline is sports and injury prevention during exercises. These applications are not only helpful to the sports people but also to those people who train others on how to perform exercises well hence the knowledge of biomechanics is very relevant in the field of the gym. Also, I have been able to understand the logic behind exercises where it happens that some people perform exercises and the results are different. Have also understood that people may have the same body features but some do better in exercises than others simply because they apply different techniques in the exercises. This happens because of the nature of the exercises each individual chose to practice in and is basically influenced by biomechanics. Biomechanics is a good discipline which people should study for their own benefit even if they will not take part in sports. References Dumoulin, C., Hay?Smith, E. J. C., Mac Habe?Sguin, G. (2014). Technology Changes free essay sample

Rapid technological change has shaped the world we live in today. Far from having a positive influence, living in a hi-tech world dependent on computers and mobile devices has distanced us from what is really important in life. There has been significant progress in many sectors, such as health, engineering, education etc. , with the advancing technology. Over and above, the fact that we can quickly reach any information we need in very short space of time has made our lives more practical and easier. But I shall argue that this is not the whole picture. Technology has also taken so much from our lives: health and social relationship. We start out with the first point: living in a hi-tech world can cause bad effect on our health. People firstly created technology to make our life easier, but in fact, people are busier and busier these days. Spending all day sitting in front of the computer and lacking of sport activities are the reason for some diseases such as dry and near-sighted eyes. We will write a custom essay sample on Technology Changes or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Besides, there are also health complaints because of muscle and joint diseases such as pain in neck, shoulder, loins and even the damage of arm nerves due to the excessive time spent working on the computer. Moreover, the number of obesity cases has increased. It isnt just the inactivity that causes the obesity but the endless snacking on junk food while people are hanging out with their technology. Obesity is responsible for diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions. Then, we move on the second point: innovations in information technology have led to a decrease in social activities and relations in people’s lives. In today’s society, more and more people stay indoors, in front of their computers rather than going out and it leads to unsociable lives. Plus, people started to prefer talking on the internet or chatting by cell phones as it is the quickest and easiest way to communicate. Consequently, face-to-face relationships started to vanish and unrealistic relationships especially the ones which are built via the Internet started to be formed. As a result, we are living in a society where young people are not learning good social skills to well-prepare for their future. In conclusion, the technology breakthrough we have experienced in the recent years has dramatically changed the way we live. Far from having a positive influence, living in a high-tech world dependent on computers and mobile device has distanced us from our health and social relationships-what is really important in life. Therefore, we should make use of the benefits that the technology brings us but not depend on it too much.

Essay on National Government’s Education Policies and Federalism

Essay on National Government’s Education Policies and Federalism Essay on National Government’s Education Policies and Federalism Essay on National Government’s Education Policies and FederalismThe increasing role of the national government in the regulation and development of educational policies has a dubious effect. On the one hand, the federal government’s education policies contribute to the better funding of education institutions and programs but, on the other hand, the problem of the effective use of federal funds arises because the federal government cannot be as efficient as local authorities and public to determine which educational needs to fund at the moment. Hence, the increase role of the federal government in education policies opens new educational opportunities but, on the other hand, it raises the problem of the effective use of federal funds and respect to federalist principles of the US democracy and state. In fact, the federal government’s education policies are effective as long as new educational programs are created and supported by the federal government. The federa l government contributes to the broader coverage of public education and federal support of public schools (Levin-Waldman, 2012). However, the use of funds provided by the federal government is less effective compared to the state and local level because the federal government cannot always understand and meet needs of specific public schools. In this regard, even limited financial resources supplied by local and state governments could be used more effectively to meet specific needs of each public school. Thus, the increased role of the federal government in education policies challenges conventional federalist norms and principles. The federal government attempts to take initiative and lead in funding and, therefore, development of education policies. However, such policies are less effective than traditional federalist policies with the wider involvement of the local authorities because the federal government cannot manage public education as effectively as local and state authori ties.

Do Catheter Washouts Extend Patency Time in Long-term Indwelling Essay

Do Catheter Washouts Extend Patency Time in Long-term Indwelling Urethral Catheters - Essay Example Bladder washouts do not have to be carried out all the time, however they may be essential when there is a significant amount of sedimentation in the urine; and in treating urinary tract infections. In this process, about 60 mls of water is usually introduced into the catheter gently via a syringe; the syringe is then removed and the catheter end is drained into a container. The procedure is repeated until 500 mls of water is used. This topic was chosen because of the growing interest of the impact of catheterization on long-term care patients and on practices which can be used to minimize the negative impact of catheterization. It is relevant to my future practice as a nurse because it would provide me with evidence on the importance of carrying out catheter washouts on patients under long-term care. This aspect of practice personally interests me because I have often encountered long-term care patients under catheterization and I have always been interested in finding ways to impro ve the quality of their lives. Evidence based practice Evidence-based practice is defined by Sackett, et.al., (1996) as the explicit and effective use of current and most appropriate evidence in health care decisions on individual patients. It also means incorporating individual clinical skills with the most appropriate clinical proof from research. Evidence-based practice is basically about getting the patient the best care possible, as proven by evidence, and according to his needs and preferences (Manzoukas, 2006). It also helps ensure that the knowledge of the nurses are up to date, that it supports clinical judgments, and can reduce time in considering appropriate care (Drisko, 2010). There are various forms of evidence which can be utilized including systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, case series/case reports, and editorials/expert opinion (University of Illinois, 2006). Not all evidence in this case is research base, most e specially in cases of editorials and expert opinion where the weight of the evidence is based on the skill and the authority of the practitioner. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct describes the specific duties of nurses. It also specifies that nurses have the responsibility of providing a high standard of care for patients at all times, and this includes providing â€Å"care based on the best available evidence or best practice† (NMC, 2009, p. 16). These provisions form the legal and practice-based support for the evidence-based care required of nurses. Evidence can therefore be used in this case in order to establish whether or not carrying out catheter washouts would extend the patency of catheters among long-term care patients. Moreover, evidence can be used to determine if these washouts would improve the care of catheterized long-term care patients. Literature review Various studies have been carried out on the current topic under study . Hagen, Sinclair, and Cross (2010) carried out their study in order to establish if some specific washout regimens are better than others in relation to effectiveness, acceptability, and quality of life. About five trials were able to meet the inclusion criteria covering 242 patients in two cross-over and three parallel-group randomised control trials. After witling down the studies based on the inclusion criteria, authors reported that there is no difference between the different washout solutions, however these results were not sufficient to support the conclusions.

What are Swifts aims in A Modest Proposal and how does he achieve them Essay

What are Swifts aims in A Modest Proposal and how does he achieve them What are Joyces aims in Araby how does she achieve them - Essay Example Many people were fed up with the government in place as it did nothing to alleviate the life of the common person in the country. The rich were always getting richer while the poor became poorer (Swift 23). Swift aims to target Ireland’s politicians, the falsehood of the English plus the degradation which she saw on the Irish People. Swift was fed up with the many empty promises posted by their leaders in power to help those needy in society, something that never materialized (Swift 24). In his book, Swift uses satire in representing her grievances in regard to the matter. She provides her own solution that can be equated to mockery too. Her solution was to end poverty by reducing the population of the poor. This can be done through eating of poor children under the age of 1 year by the rich. Her solution was absurd adding to the mockery on the many solutions that never materialized (Swift 27). Swift manages to address issues like poverty, famine, overpopulation and homelessne ss in this paper. In contrast, Joyce’s Araby aims at portraying Dublin life at its realistic point through a young boy that lived in it (Norris 45). Describing every sense and environment in which the boy lived, the author managed to bring out the parallels of life between the rich and poor in the society. The poor had to succumb through poor living condition and struggled to make ends. In addition, Joyce adds a theme of discovering of love through the innocent young boy (Norris 46). The young boy had a crush on Manga’s sisters and did what he can to please her, something which in the end did not go as he had planned due to lack of money. A situation which most people expect to turn into happiness, ended up in a sad note when the boy missed to see the show and get to please a girl. Joyce aimed at portraying the implication of poverty of social, economic and spiritual well-being of people

Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligence Essay Example for Free

Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligence Essay Many years ago it was quite common to label someone with a high IQ as a â€Å"genius† or as being more intelligent than others. Albert Einstein is one of those men who were labeled as a genius because of all that he had accomplished at such a young age. Undeniably, Einstein’s smarts were extremely remarkable, but records show that he was not the best student. Although Einstein scored extremely well in areas like Math and Physics, it has been noted that in areas like linguistics, he did not excel (Albert Einstein, 2005). Does this make Einstein, any less of a genius? According to Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, a person’s intelligence isn’t necessarily measured in standardized testing or school grades. Gardner identifies that each person’s learning style is different, so the intelligence could excel in any of the eight styles: Linguistic, Musical, Logical, Naturalistic, Visual, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal (Kowalski Westen, 2011). This means that someone like Ludwig van Beethoven who may not have been as scholarly as Albert Einstein, can still be considered a genius due to his musical intelligence. The eight different intelligences described by Gardner are what he believed to be the eight strengths in which a person can learn. Gardner believed that because everyone can learn in one of these eight different styles, then they could excel in any of the respective fields. A person who possesses a linguistic intelligence is described as someone who uses words and communication effectively. A person with linguistic intelligence would have excellent auditory skills, and translates everything into words or speech. On the other hand, someone who possesses the learning style of spatial intelligence would be most comfortable with graphics, physical imagery, and visuals (Campbell, 1992). However, someone with a preference to the kinesthetic style of learning would be most comfortable with being hands on. They learn by doing, touching, and anything that involves physical activity, therefore their intelligence might look more like acting out, or role playing. Another learning style of multiple intelligences described by Gardner is naturalistic. Someone who possesses a naturalistic style of learning is more in tune with their surroundings, and focus a lot with what nature is giving them. The naturalistic intelligence was not added to the multiple intelligences until much later. Gardner’s theory was introduced to naturalistic in response to the nature versus nurture debate, in which a person learns from their surroundings, or environment in which they are in (Sulaiman, Hassan, Yi, 2011). One of the bigger learning styles in Gardner’s theory is that of intrapersonal and interpersonal. Intrapersonal is that in which a person learns from themselves. Someone who keeps to themselves and does not get socially involved (Campbell, 1992). On the complete different spectrum, is the interpersonal learning style. Like a social butterfly, interpersonal refers to someone who works well with others, enjoys working in teams, center of attention, and just like they seek attention of others, others seek their attention as well. I personally identify with the interpersonal school of learning the best out of all of the intelligences in Gardner’s theory. I mostly work well when accompanied by others. I am a team player, and team leader. Others usually seek to me for advice, and I tend to deliver my best results, when working with others. This is the intelligence that is mostly credited with the slang term of â€Å"street smarts† (Sulaiman, Hassan, Yi, 2011). Having played sports for a big part of my life, I tend to carry my thoughts as a team. I carry the team and make sure to understand everyone on the team. I always think of others first, and having that one on one interaction is most important to me. Throughout my career, I have found myself to be in leadership roles quite frequently , because many others who are not strengthen by the interpersonal intelligence feel as if I can lead better due to the emphasis I put on team work, and my adequate level of communication with the entire team. In the work place I have found this quite helpful, and it has helped me become very successful. The two other intelligences outlined in Gardner’s theory are that of musical and logical, or mathematical. Musical intelligence is referred to a person when they can relate everything to a rhythm, or sequence. Someone who possesses musical intelligence is also aware of the sounds and music space in their surroundings. Someone with musical intelligence would be aware of dichotic listening, and understand the importance of noise (Kowalski Westen, 2011). Music is a very big part of my life, what I do, and how I do it. I can remember growing up and not being able to go to sleep until music was playing in the background. I find myself being almost allergic to quite. I tend to do my best work when either I have music playing in the background, or if the TV is on. While in school, I usually found myself while studying, to be singing. I tend to associate rhyme and rhythm to a lot of the new things that I learn. According to Gardner, someone who possesses a musical intelligence is sen sitive to sound, and could hear music, or find the rhythm to anything, even before the words are spoken (Campbell, 1992). The last intelligence in Gardner’s theory is logical intelligence, or most commonly known as mathematical intelligence (Sulaiman, Hassan, Yi, 2011). Someone who occupies the logical intelligence are said to think abstractly. They mostly need to learn and form concepts before they can deal with details. They calculate results, enjoy working the mind in the way that really uses the prefrontal vortex more than any other intelligence. Someone with logical thinking is believed to be someone who takes their time to analyze all possible circumstances, and work the problem for an answer. This type of person likes puzzles and word games to stimulate the brain. I identify myself as being a logical thinker due to the fact that one of my strengths is to be analytical. Albert Einstein was believed to belong in this intelligence field, due to his work in mathematics and physics. I find my intelligence to not be at the level of Einstein by any means, but I do relate to his earlier work being proficient in the math field over the linguistic (Albert Einstein, 2005). Since English is not my first language, growing up in the United States, going to school was very difficult for me, but numbers became my safe haven. Having learned numbers at a very young age (according to my teachers, I knew how to add and subtract by the time I was 3) I find myself most attracted to professions in which analytical thinking is required. Having worked as a District Investigator, it was required of me to look at paperwork and identify the fraud, or identify the theft by finding the patterns, or the number sequence. A big part of my job was to analyze transactions, and compare them to video images. Things are always better explained to me if broken down into patterns. Although Gardner divided the intelligences into eight separate categories, his theory believed that a person does not just dominate one intelligence, but rather takes a bit from all of the intelligences collectively. Just like it could be clearly identified that Albert Einstein that dominated the logical intelligence, his work shows that he might have possessed the intrapersonal intelligence as well as the spatial intelligence (Campbell, 1992). Gardner believed that the intelligence of someone could not necessarily be measured, by testing, but mainly by teachings, and learning styles. I feel as if I most identify with musical intelligence, logical intelligence, and interpersonal intelligence. My career thus far would suggest that these fields have brought me much success, but in my recent career change from Criminal Justice to Psychology, I will most likely learn to domain in the linguistic and spatial intelligence.

Music and Murder :: essays research papers

Documentaries serve to draw a response through the use of literary techniques in order to present a particular point of view. Michael Cordell’s Music and Murder subscribes to this principle, the documentary focuses on three men serving prison sentences for taking a life and how music has changed and shaped their outlook on their own lives. Music, structure, verbal language and selection of detail all work on the viewers emotions which serve to draw a positive response towards rehabilitation in prisons. Music and Murder follows Vernon Kronk who killed an infant because it wet the bed, Geoffrey Websdale who shot dead two people and injured one and Daniel Miles who stabbed his girlfriend. All three prisoners are serving sentences in prison for their crimes and all three with the help of the prison teachers have found an interest in music. Music and Murder as a title for this documentary is very peculiar in that it hints that the two themes go together, many would see such a title as a paradox and that if rehabilitation was the only issue Music after Murder would be a more suitable title, however the emotional maturing through music is important in the documentary. Music recorded by the prisoners is played throughout the documentary, this attempts to give the viewer insight into the emotions felt by the musicians. The music is described by one of the prisons music teachers as â€Å"coming from the heart†, because we have not discovered the crimes that the prisoners have committed the music attempts to draw on feelings of sympathy from the viewer for the men. Much of the documentary is left to periods of the men’s music; these periods are an expression of emotion by which the notion of humanity and a second chance is put forward. The structure, the order parts of the documentary are presented determine how prisoners are constructed by the viewer. In Music and Murder Vernon, Geoffrey and Daniel are all constructed in the same way and overall the documentary works to construct the prisoners as people deserving of the viewers trust. In the beginning of the documentary the prison is described and shown as concrete and metal and there are close-ups of the metal bars, locks and razor-wire. This use of montage re-establishes the viewers previous idea of prison as punishment. After this the music is introduced by the respected teachers as not leisure but a constructive way to use their time in prison, having the punishment aspect of prison introduced before the music gives the viewer a positive on the idea as music as rehabilitation and not just as leisure.
